Community Spirit

Another area of interest is the inculcation of a community spirit in the children. The expression of community spirit entails a group or individual engaging in activities that benefit the community.
At the end of each year as part of the Christmas celebration, every class engages in raising funds through their own efforts or parental involvement. Fundraising gives children a sense of empowerment. Children do not often have the monetary resources available to them to bring about change, but through fundraising, they can acquire the monetary means necessary to begin the process of change. They see firsthand that they have the ability to make a positive change in their communities.
These funds are used to fete children on admission at the Paediatric ward of the Regional Hospital during the Christmas season. Other places visited are Orphanages, less privileged schools like the school for the deaf and the Prisons.
It is important to involve children in philanthropic activities when they are young because as they grow, these behaviors will become second nature to them.
